A new marine sensor now sits on the ocean floor off Quadra Island. Earlier this week, the Hakai Institute successfully deployed a custom-built underwater observatory—known as a LIMPET—which is connected to land via a cable to Hakai’s Quadra Island Field Station.

The LIMPET adds to our existing oceanographic monitoring program by providing real-time data on ocean temperature, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen for the waters off Quadra Island. Stay tuned for more information about how to access this exciting new source of oceanography data.
The LIMPET was designed and built by a collaborative team of Colby Owen and James McPhail from Hakai Energy Solutions, and Wayne Jacob and Shawn Hateley from the Hakai Institute.
